Outpatient Surgical Procedures

As a patient, it’s normal to feel anxious, scared, nervous and vulnerable about an upcoming procedure. Most procedures require patients to take sedatives before the procedure. For outpatient surgeries, this means you need a designated driver to take you home. You’ll need to make transportation arrangements and decide who will drive you to your appointment, who will be your appointment companion to provide you with support, and decide who will drive you back home.

It’s natural to want or even expect your family or friends to take you to your procedure. Unfortunately, family and friends are not always available to take you to your appointment and stay with you through the entire process, pick up your prescriptions and take you back home. They may have conflicting schedules. They may not be able to take an entire day off. They may have small children to attend to and can’t bring them to the appointment. They may not even live in the same state as you. Because of these obstacles, you feel even more apprehensive and consider cancelling or delaying your appointment.
